I have yet another love in my life, and I have completely fallen under his spell. His name is Thorin Invictus Schempp and he was born on March 26th, 11 days after his due date, but labor was less than 9 hours start to finish and I had an epidural for the last 4 so I can't complain too much about that. He is a charmer! In addition to being cute and snuggly, he is a very easy baby so far. He has put on 5 pounds (weighing in at 13.5 lbs now up from 8.5 at birth) and grown 4 inches (25 inches now up from 21 at birth) so you know he is a good eater. He really only fusses at me when he is hungry, tired, or wet/dirty so no hours of unexplained crying. Sometimes, he will make noises of discontentment when he is being held that mean, "I need some alone time," but he quiets down and smiles when set in his swing or bouncy chair or on his changing table and strapped down. He rarely spits up. Don't tell anyone, but he has slept 10+ hours in row 5 of the past 7 nights! I know this can't last, but it has been lovely especially with Ian out of town four of those nights. Liam also slept 10+ hours 5 of the past 7 nights. Yay for me! I am just a very lucky gal.
Liam loves him, which is both adorable and such a relief. In fact, when Liam is upset or hurt he will talk to Thorin or snuggle him to feel better. Again, adorable! Liam's first words when I got home from the hospital (18 hours after giving birth) were, "Hello, baby. What's your name?" Then, "Hi, Baby Foeden. I'm Liam. I'm your big brother!" Seriously, my heart melts every day.
The pregnancy was rough from start to finish both physically and emotionally, but worth every moment. I am feeling pretty much recovered although still experiencing sciatic pain as well as being tired and hungry all the time but I think that has more to do with carrying/nursing a growing boy and keeping up with a toddler than with recovering from pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
We keep busy with weekly visits to the zoo and science center as well as play dates with friends, story times, and trips to the park whenever possible. The summer should provide us with even more opportunities to play outside. Liam has been really sweet to me (saving bad behavior for Ian) the past three months or so and is getting more articulate and better at listening every day.
Things are good with Ian. I know that parents often take frustrations out on each other after a new baby is born, and we have been trying hard not to do that. Sometimes, I get jealous that he seems to have so many more interests than I do - improv, video games, D&D as opposed to knitting and reading, but I am working on getting to yoga classes, attending my book group, and hanging out with friends. Overall, life is good. I feel like I am doing what I want to do right now, fulfilled in a way I really didn't before I had kids, and happy with who I am.
